Meeting: June 13, 2006 @ 7pm

Come on out to Frog Design for a local RailsConf preview. Local Railers Damon Clinkscales and Jim Freeze are going to share their talks with us and will be looking for feedback.

Rails and Asterisk Get A Dental Office Talking by Jim Freeze

Automation of Medical and Dental offices will be
a $25 Billion business in 2007. But today, the
online presence of most offices is non-existent.

This talk is how we have changed that for two offices and how Ruby on Rails, coupled with Asterisk (an open source PBX), can significantly impact re-appointment, patient communication and office workflow.

In addition, we look at how Rails and Web 2.0 open the door to make Medical/Dental Web Applications a reality.

Agile Databases with Migrations by Damon Clinkscales

Database migrations are often a pain in the neck.
Fortunately, Rails includes several new features to help keep your database agile along with your code.

In this talk, we’ll walk through several
example migrations, discuss how to work with legacy databases, and outline a set of migration best practices and gotchas to keep you on top
of your game.

UPDATE: Damon has posted his RailsConf slides on his web site.

Ah, so the dog thing was sarcasm?! [slaps head] Don't know why I didn't catch it sooner. The wifey is a master of sarcasm, just a different flavor. I will probably miss tonight's meeting anyway. I have a client meeting this evening and Austin is just too far away from San Antonio to make it in time. Maybe next time.

Nate...What year do you think this is? 1999? When was the last time you got a new car as a signing bonus? Corporate has you right where they wantcha. I hope you are happy! If you bring your crazy dog, my guess is that Frog Security Inc. will escort you and your canine to Congress Avenue.

Are you guys serious? You can bring dogs to the meeting? I want to go, but my wife hates being at home with our (sometimes crazy) dog by herself. This bringing the dog thing might be just the ticket to get my pass for tomorrow night.

I've been thinking that a pirate-style eye patch and a monacle might be a neat thing to wear as trick. This is in addition to a funny hat.

Tony
So much for my comment thread monitoring capabilities. Here it is a quadjillion days later and I'm posting here.

I'll see what I can do about the hat. I *seriously* doubt I have a hat that could hold your attention.

Please do bring some dogs, though. That'd be fun.

About the dogs. No more than eleventy, if they're small.

Automation of Russian casinos will account for eleventy gadjillion rubles of the GDP by 2034. This all hinges on whether avarice and waste destroys the world before then though. Also, Damon, would it be possible for you to wear a funny hat while you gave your talk? Or maybe do a dance or something. Sometimes, I find myself getting bored because Frog Design doesn't believe in Wifi. Are we allowed to bring dogs into Frog Design? If so, how many?
